2017 Baja SAE Sway Bar
Purpose:
2016 Vehicle could not make sharp turns
Sway bar used to transfer power during turns to rear outer wheel
Process:
Performed calcs at max body roll for displacement of suspension members, forces acting on members, torque required to “lift” inner rear tire, and moment arm lengths required to create torsion
Designed and modeled in Solidworks
Oversaw in-house manufacturing via mill, lathe, and tig welder
Outcomes:
Vastly improved handling over ‘16 car (based on driver feedback)
Took 6th and 9th place out of 120 terms in two maneuverability competitions
